The Hastings Cliff Railway - 0 Gauge
9'00" X
9'00"
You are on the beach at Hastings with the sound
of the waves on the shingle behind you. The miniature railway, shown
here with one of its original steam locomotives, has run along the beach
since 1947. Towering above you is the East Cliff and the East Hill
Lift (built in 1903) which will take you up from Rock-a-Nore Road to see the
magnificent views over Hastings and the sea. The nearby buildings have
character and include wooden net drying towers and the fishermen’s chapel.
The visitors have arrived in a variety of historic cars and coaches.
This model is based on photographs and measurements of the site and original
1903 drawings of the funicular railway kindly provided by Hastings Borough
Council.
